About 300 teams are in the field in Delhi to reduce the air pollution, necessary machinery to reduce air pollution has been distributed. The main focus is on seven industrial clusters and major traffic corridors in the National Capital Region (NCR). The Centre is keeping a close watch on polluting units and burning of wastes, besides the construction activities. PK Mishra, the principal secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba held the meeting. The pollution levels in Delhi and the neighbouring shot up on Sunday. Apart from Delhi, schools have been shut in Noida till Tuesday.
Over 30 flights were diverted from Delhi airport due to low visibility caused by a thick layer of smog. A tweet from CM Arvind Kejriwal read: "Pollution has reached unbearable levels across North India. Delhi government taken many steps. Delhiites have made many sacrifices. Delhi suffering for no fault of theirs. Punjab CM also expressed concern. The centre should take immediate steps to provide relief. We will support the Centre in all initiatives".
In an attempt to reduce pollution, Delhi is staring odd-even scheme from Monday, which will go on till November 15. Under the road rationing scheme, all odd and even numbered vehicles will run on odd and even days of the week. However, two-wheelers, vehicles with school children, Vehicles of VVIPs/VIPs, women driver alone or with child up to 12 years of age will be exempted from the rule.
