Dehradun, September 15: The Uttarakhand police, on Saturday, September 14, arrested a 17-year-old boy for allegedly sexually assaulting a schoolgirl in Dehradun. The alleged incident occurred at around 1 PM at the yoga hall of a private school in Dehradun's Rajpur area. Cops said that the juvenile in conflict with the law and the survivor used to study at the same school.
Speaking about the incident to The Times of India, Vikendra Kumar, sub-inspector of Rajpur police station, said that the 17-year-old boy took the girl to the yoga hall where he sexually assaulted the victim. Soon after the incident came to light, the school management management alerted the police, who quickly reached the spot and apprehended the juvenile. Meanwhile, the minor girl was sent to a hospital for medical examination. A police officer privy to the case said that the alleged incident came to light when the victim's parents caught the accused inside the school's yoga hall. The officer said that the parents had gone to the school to pick up their daughter after her examination. However, when the girl did not come out, the parents entered the school building to look for her.
The officer said that the parents caught the boy sexually assaulting their daughter and quickly raised an alarm. Acting on the complaint, the police booked the 17-year-old boy under various sections of the POCSO Act and have begun an investigation in connection with the incident. In a separate incident, a court in Pauri Garhwal sentenced 22-year-old Mohd Irfan, a resident of Haridwar, to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) after finding him guilty of abducting and raping a 17-year-old girl from a village in Pauri district. The alleged incident occurred in 2020.
