Dead Lizard Allegedly Found in School’s Midday Meal in Odisha’s Balasore District, 100 Students Fall Ill
A dead lizard was allegedly found in the midday meal at Udaynarayan Nodal School in Odisha's Balasore district. Initially 24 students fell ill; the number has risen to 100 as of Friday.
Bhubaneswar, August 9: Hundreds of students from the Udaynarayan Nodal School in Sirapur, Balasore district of Odisha, fell ill on Thursday, August 8, after consuming a midday meal. The meal reportedly contained a dead lizard, which caused illness among the students. After experiencing symptoms such as nausea and chest pain, the students were promptly taken to Soro Hospital for treatment.
On Thursday, a student discovered a dead lizard in his food while having their midday meal of rice and curry. The students were immediately instructed to stop eating to prevent any potential repercussions. Following this, the students started to experience stomach aches and nausea. An ambulance rushed those students to nearby hospitals. Initially, 24 students were reported sick, but the number has risen to 100 since Friday, August 9. According to a report by India Today, a medical team responded by visiting the school to treat the students. After receiving medical care, several students vomited and were subsequently rushed to the community health centre for further treatment. The block education officer stated that an investigation would be carried out, and legal action would be taken against those found responsible. In a similar incident on Wednesday in Gorakhpur, eastern Uttar Pradesh, a 15-year-old student died after being hospitalised for food poisoning. This student was among approximately 80 children from the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Ashram School in Mehroona village who experienced symptoms such as stomach pain, vomiting, and diarrhoea after consuming the school meal. Currently, 61 of these students remain hospitalised at Deoria Medical College.
