DCW Rescues Woman Who Was Abused, Assaulted And Forced Labour For 15 Years at Delhi Bungalow
The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) has rescued a girl who has been forced to work as domestic help for the last 15 years in a house in Delhi's Uttam Nagar. The 29-year-old girl, a resident of Jharkhand, was held captive since she was 14 years old.
New Delhi, May 8: The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) has rescued a girl who has been forced to work as domestic help for the last 15 years in a house in Delhi's Uttam Nagar. The 29-year-old girl, a resident of Jharkhand, was held captive since she was 14 years old. On Tuesday morning, the DCW along with the police carried out the rescue operations after it received an anonymous complaint that a girl was illegally held captive and engaged as a maid in a bungalow, reported India Today. After the rescue, the girl revealed that she didn't receive any wages for the last 14 years, reported India Today. She, employed through a placement agency which shut down years ago, told police that she was a victim of verbal abuse and was often beaten by house owner who didn't allow her to step out of the house. The DCW said that the woman was subjected to extreme cruelty by the employer, who is a well-established interior decorator. The victim said that her employer is separated from her husband and lives with her daughter and her elder son is currently living in Australia.
Meanwhile, an FIR has been registered in Bindapur Police Station under section 374 of Indian Penal Code (IPC). The Women Commission has urged the police to take strict action and immediately arrest the house owner. The DCW also urged police to recover the girl's wages at the earliest.
