Mumbai, October 27: Five police personnel including a sub-inspector have been suspended for providing preferential treatment to fugitive don Dawood Ibrahim’s brother Iqbal Kaskar in Maharashtra's Thane jail. According to reports, Thane police commissioner Vivek Phansalkar has suspended a sub-inspector and four constables for providing preferential treatment to Kaskar, who was arrested in an extortion case.
The arrest comes after a video went viral, in which Kaskar was seen seated in a private car and eating biryani. The incident took place when Kaskar was on taken to a hospital for blood and sugar levels treatment on Thursday after a Court’s order. According to a report by Mumbai Mirror, Joint Police Commissioner Madhukar Pandey nabbed the cops after a sting operation, conducted by a news channel. In September 2017, Kaskar and two of his aides were arrested by the Thane police in a separate case of extortion of Rs 30 lakh and four flats from a builder.
In May, Kaskar was admitted to the J J Hospital after he complained of chest pain and giddiness. After he was examined at the hospital and provided necessary medical treatment, he was taken back to the Thane Central Jail. Apart from chest pain and giddiness, Kaskar also had a skin ailment, a doctor at the hospital told PTI.
According to a PTI report, Kaskar who was deported from the UAE in 2003, was arrested by the Thane Police in September 2017 in connection with an investigation into an extortion case.
