New Delhi, October 16: Daati Maharaj, the self styled Godman, accused in a rape case, approached the Supreme Court on Tuesday, October 16, challenging the Delhi High Court order that directed transferring the case to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The Delhi high court on October 3, Wednesday, questioned the police about not being able to arrest the self-styled Godman despite the charge sheet issued against him and transferred the matter to the CBI. Earlier, the woman who had accused the self-styled godman of rape, had moved a fresh plea before the Delhi High Court on July 17, seeking a probe into her allegations by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Order CBI Inquiry Against Daati Maharaj, Appeals Woman Who Levelled Rape-Charge.

The rape-charge was levelled against Maharaj in May by his former disciple, who "ran away" from his Gurukul Ashwasan ashram in Rajasthan’s Bal Gram nearly two years ago. The 25-year-old woman, who is a former disciple of Daati Maharaj, registered a complaint with the Delhi Police Crime Branch alleging rape by Daati Maharaj. The police initiated a probe against the self-styled godman and filed a complaint against him under sections 376, 377, 354 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Rape accused Daati Maharaj, who was initially on the run, came forward later and said that he would cooperate with the police in the case and though he was questioned by the police, he has not been arrested by the police.
