Cyclonic Circulation Over Bay of Bengal; Kerala, Karnataka and Odisha to Receive Heavy Rainfall in Coming Days, Says IMD
In the wake of the changing weather conditions, heavy rainfall is likely to hit Odisha for the next 48 hours as the cyclonic circulation lies over Westcentral and adjoining Northwest Bay of Bengal off the state's coast. The weather agency said that isolated heavy rainfall is likely in these states during the subsequent four days.
Kochi, August 23: Heavy rainfall is likely to lash Odisha, Kerala and Karnataka in the next 48 hours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted. In its weather bulletin, the IMD said that these three states will receive extremely heavy rainfall due to a cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal. In the wake of the changing weather conditions, heavy rainfall is likely to hit Odisha for the next 48 hours as the cyclonic circulation lies over West-Central and adjoining Northwest Bay of Bengal off the state's coast. The weather agency said that isolated heavy rainfall is likely in these states during the subsequent four days. Pre-Monsoon Rainfall From March to May Deficit Drops to 22%: IMD.
The IMD informed that under the influence of convergence of lower-level westerlies, the southern states including Kerala and Coastal Karnataka are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places during the next 24 hours. "A cyclonic circulation lies over Westcentral and adjoining Northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha coast between 1.5 and 4.5 km above mean sea level. Under its influence, isolated heavy to very heavy falls are very likely over Odisha next 72 hours," the weather agency said in its afternoon bulletin.
Apart from Odisha, Karnataka and Kerala, several states including Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Bihar are likely to witness heavy rainfall in the coming days. Strong winds, speed reaching 45-55 kmph, are very likely to prevail over southwest Bay of Bengal, the IMD said.
