Cyclone Titli in Odisha: Affected Families of Ganjam, Gajapati & Gunupur to Be Given Relief for 15 Days, Says Naveen Patnaik
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday conducted an aerial survey of flood-hit Ganjam, Gajapati and Rayagada districts. Following the survey, Patnaik stated that he would announce a package for the flood-hit people.
Puri, October 13: Cyclone Titli intensified into a ‘very severe’ cyclonic storm and created a havoc in Odisha and Andhra Pradesh since October 10. In the wake of the storm, several houses in Odisha were damaged and severe flooding in Asika in Odisha's Ganjam district was reported due to the cyclonic activity. On Saturday, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik conducted an aerial survey of flood-hit Ganjam, Gajapati and Rayagada districts. Patnaik announced that affected families of Ganjam, Gajapati and Gunupur sub-division of Rayagada will be given relief for 15 days. "On an average, a family of 4 members will be assisted with more than Rs 3000 as a relief", Patnaik was quoted by ANI. The Chief Minister informed that the maximum damage has been done to the agricultural crop, the roads and the trees and the relief work is going on at top speed as well as the restoration work. "I shall convene a meeting on the flood situation Saturday evening and announce a package for the affected people," he added. reports informed that Cyclone Titli weakened into a deep depression and entered West Bengal on Friday, triggering incessant rainfall even as it claimed four lives - three in Odisha and one in Bengal. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that the depression over Odisha has moved East-Northeastwards in the past six hours and is likely to maintain as a depression for the next 12 hours and weaken thereafter.
