The threat of cyclonic storm in Mumbai has subsided, the IMD officials were reported as saying. The rains are continuing in several pockets of the city but wind speed has not increased to the predicted level.
Pune, located significantly away from the coastline of Maharashtra, also witnessed heavy rainfall combined with gusty winds on Wednesday, after cyclone Nisarga made landfall.

Mumbai was hit by fierce rainfall and gusty winds ahead of the complete landfall of cyclone Nisarga. Trees and poles were uprooted in several parts of the city. Three members of family in Santacruz was injured after a cement slab fall on their shanty.
"Winds have still not crossed 100 kmph. You are not seeing voluminous precipitation. The cyclone turned south and within an hour or two it is going to start decaying," Jatin Singh, Director of Skymet Weather, told Mirror Now.
Till 19:00 hours, no take-off or landings would take place at the airport due to Cyclone Nisarga, said a statement issued by the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai.
The landfall will be completed in the next one hour, said the India Meteorological Department. The centre of storm is layered over Maharashtra, said the weather body in its latest alert. The wind speed was measured as above 93 kmph at 1:30 pm.
The landfall in Alibaug, at around 1 pm, hit the coast with a speed of over 120 kmph. Mumbai, Thane and Palghar are bracing for the storm, which may arrive in less than 2 hours. The video of landfall was shared by NDRF. Watch below:
The landfall process has begun in Alibaug with wind speed above 120 kmph. The traffic movement was stopped in several parts of Mumbai, including the Bandra Worli sealink. Pedestrian movement along the coastline is strictly prohibited.
With winds gushing at over 70 kmph, trees have been uprooted in several parts of Mumbai and neighbouring Navi Mumbai. The cyclone is yet to reach the two cities, along with Thane and Palghar. While the landfall was reported near Alibaug at around 1 pm, the storm is expected to hit Mumbai region before 4 pm.
The landfall process is currently underway in Maharashtra. Fierce winds measuring above 80 kmph were reported in Alibaug. The storm is expected to reach Mumbai and Thane within the next two hours, and the wind speed is likely to escalate above 100 kmph. "About 43 National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams are deployed in the two states; of which 21 are in Maharashtra. Nearly 1 lakh people have been evacuated from the cyclone spot," said SN Pradhan, NDRF Director General.
The landfall process which began before 1 pm along Maharashtra coast has now hit the land, with the storm reaching Alibaug. The cyclone will enter into Mumbai over the next two hours, warns the weather body. Rainfall and high-speed winds are being reported across the coastline.

"The southwestern part of the eye will enter the land in an hour or so and during that time we expect the rains and wind speed to increase. The landfall process will last for 2-3 hours," said Mahesh Palawat, Vice President, Meteorology, Skymet Weather while speaking to Mirror Now.
The landfall process has begun in Maharashtra, with the cyclone hitting the coastline south of Alibaug in Raigad district. The cyclone is expected to reach Mumbai in the next couple of hours. Wind speed in the state capital has crossed 72 kmph, said the IMD.
The sea in Mumbai turns rough and the wind speed has drastically increased along the coastline in Maharashtra. The police is monitoring the region and has barred civilian movement in public.
"The center of the severe Cyclone Nisarga is very close to Maharashtra coast. Landfall process started & it will be completed during next 3 hours. The northeast sector of the eye of severe cyclonic storm is entering into land," said the IMD.

According to India India Meteorological Department (IMD), Cyclone Nisarga will turn into severe cyclonic storms and cross Maharashtra and Gujarat coast between Harihareshwar and Daman, close to Alibaug in Maharashtra's Raigad district on Wednesday afternoon.
IMD Director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra in his prediction had already stated that severe cyclonic storm would have a wind speed of 90-105 kmph when it crosses the coast on June 3. As the cyclone approaches near Maharashtra, the state saw constant drizzling in parts of Mumbai. Areas like Parel, Mulund, Goregaon Vasai Road, Navi Mumbai reported drizzle since early evening. Districts including Palghar, Greater Mumbai, Raigad and Mumbai have been put on alert. As per IMD data, cyclone Nisarga is 155 km south-southwest of Alibaug and 200 km south-southwest of Mumbai and is approaching fast towards North Maharashtra coast with a speed of 13 kmph during past 6 hours. NRDF has deployed its 20 teams in view of the impending Nisarga cyclone. Eight teams are there is Mumbai, five in Raigad, two in Palghar, two in Thane. Ratnagiri also has two teams and one team has been kept in Sindhudurg.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday said that people who live in temporary or weak houses will be shifted to relief camps, adding that precautions would be taken during the relief and rehabilitation works, considering the prevalence of COVID-19. He had also asked people to stay indoors for two days. Also, ahead of the cyclone Nisarga, the Mumbai police imposed Section 144, prohibiting the movement of public on beaches, promenades and other places near to the coastline.
