Cyclone Maha Likely to Recurve Towards Gujarat by November 5, Heavy Rainfall to Lash Parts of Gujarat, Maharashtra and Goa, Says IMD
In its weather bulletin, Cyclone Maha, (Pronounced as M'maha) moved further from the Arabian Sea with a speed of 13 kmph during past 6 hours and lay centered at about 550 km south-southwest of Veraval in Gujarat and 570 km west-northwest of Goa.
Mumbai, November 2: Cyclone Maha, the severe cyclonic storm, which moved north westwards from the Arabian Sea, might recurve in east-northeast direction towards Gujarat coast by November 5, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said. In its weather bulletin, the weather agency said that Cyclone Maha, (Pronounced as M'maha) moved further from the Arabian Sea with a speed of 13 kmph during past 6 hours and lay centered at about 550 km south-southwest of Veraval in Gujarat and 570 km west-northwest of Goa.
According to IMD, the cyclonic storm is very likely to move west-northwestwards till November 4 and recurve towards south Gujarat coast thereafter. "It is very likely to intensify into a Very Severe Cyclonic Storm over eastcentral Arabian sea during the next 48 hours", the IMD said. Under this influence, thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and hail very likely over Gujarat, Maharashtra and isolated places over Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and parts of Madhya Pradesh. According to private weather agency Skymet Weather, Cyclone Maha would be bring moist winds over Gujarat and scattered light to moderate rain and thundershowers over Somnath, Junagarh, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Valsad, Navsari, Surat, and Bharuch today and tomorrow. Light rain are also over Ahmadabad, Rajkot, and Mehsana. Sea conditions would remain rough to very rough over South Gujarat coast until November 3.
The weather agency predicted that by November 3, as the system moves west-northwestward, rains would reduce over Gujarat but if Cyclone Maha re-curves around November 5 and start moving towards Gujarat coast, heavy rainfall is likely to lash Gujarat on November 6-7. On Thursday, the Indian Coast Guard had deployed six ships and one aircraft while disaster response teams are on standby for rescue and relief operations.
