Mumbai, November 5: Heavy rainfall is in store for Mumbai and its neighbouring areas in the next 24 hours with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a yellow alert for Thane and Palghar. In it's weather bulletin, the weather agency on Tuesday stated that several places in Maharashtra and Gujarat will be battered with heavy rainfall on November 6 and 7 due to the formation of extremely severe cyclonic storm Maha, which lays centered in the Arabian Sea. The yellow alert stands for 'Be aware'. When this alert is issued, it means the weather agency has urged people to be alert as a severely bad weather would be likely over the next few days. Cyclone Maha Likely to Cross Gujarat Coast by November 7, Heavy Rainfall Likely in Saurashtra, Porbandar, Diu and Parts of Maharashtra.

Under the influence of the cyclonic storm. several cities in Maharashtra including Nashik, Pune, and Aurangabad are expected to witness heavy to moderate rainfall. The IMD said light to moderate rainfall at most places with isolated heavy falls very likely over North Konkan which included Palghar and Thane districts and northern-most districts of Madhya Maharashtra which comprise of Nashik, Dhule and Nandurbar districts on November 6. Cyclone Maha Alert: Rainfall at Few Places in Maharashtra & Gujarat, Fishing Suspended Till Nov 6.

On Tuesday, the very severe cyclonic storm Maha was centered at about 640 km west-southwest of Porbandar in Gujarat, 690 km west-southwest of Veraval in Gujarat and 750 km west-southwest of Diu. The IMD stated that Cyclone Maha is very likely to move east-northeastwards with rapid weakening and is very likely to cross Gujarat coast around Diu as a cyclonic storm on November 7, 2019.
