Cyclone Maha: Heavy Rainfall Triggers Flood-Like Situation in Parts of Maharashtra, More Rains Likely in Coming Days
Under the influence of the cyclonic storm, widespread rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms is expected in the Vidarbha, Marathwada regions along with heavy rainfall in parts of Mumbai over the weekend.
Nashik, November 2: Parts of Maharashtra including Nashik, Manmad and Malegaon witnessed water-logging and flood-like situations on Saturday following heavy rainfall in the region. According to a tweet by ANI, torrential rains wreaked havoc across the state since Thursday. People across the state will have to brace themselves for some more rain this weekend as cyclonic storm Maha, which lays over the Arabian sea, is likely to intensify into a very severe cyclonic storm in the next 24 hours.

Under the influence of the cyclonic storm, widespread rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms is expected in the Vidarbha, Marathwada regions along with heavy rainfall in parts of Mumbai over the weekend. The cyclonic storm lays centered over the Arabian Sea at about 540 km southsouthwest of Veraval in Gujarat and 550 km south-southwest of Diu.

In its weather bulletin, the IMD said that the cyclonic storm is very likely to move west-northwestwards till November 4 and might recurve east-northeastwards towards south Gujarat and adjoining north Maharashtra coasts, thereafter.
Maharashtra witnessed heavy rainfall over the past two days. According to details by Skymet Weather, significant rainfall was observed in Alibag which recorded 94 mm rains, Bulsar 24 mm, Dahanu 41 mm, Santa Cruz 46 mm and Nashik received 36 mm rains in the last 24 hours. The private weather agency said rainfall activity will continue over the area during the next 48 hours.
According to a report by Financial Express, as per preliminary estimates by the agriculture department of Maharashtra, standing crop spread over 54 lakh hectare has been damaged by the unseasonal rains. However, owing to intermittent rainfall, the air quality in Mumbai and Pune have improved 'satisfactory' and 'good' levels respectively.
