Mumbai, November 5: India Meteorological Department has issued fresh weather updates for November 6 and 7 for Gujarat, Maharashtra, Daman and Diu, Dadra and Nagar Haveli in light of the extremely severe cyclonic storm, MAHA. Fishermen have been asked to observe total suspension of fishing operations till November 6.
The weather department has predicted light to moderate rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy falls at a few places very likely over Saurashtra and Gujarat region. IMD has further predicted light to moderate rainfall in most places in Maharashtra with isolated heavy falls likely over North Madhya Maharashtra and the Konkan region for November 7. Thane and Palghar are among the five districts in Maharashtra that have been put on yellow alert for Wednesday on account of the cyclonic storm Maha. The extremely severe cyclonic storm 'Maha' lying over the central Arabian sea, is likely to recurve towards Gujarat and make landfall between Union Territory of Diu and Porbandar, between November 6th night and 7th morning. The weather department has predicted that the intensity of the storm is rapidly reducing and by the time it reaches the Gujarat shore, the wind speed will not be more than 90km/hour.
Parts of Gujarat on Saturday received unseasonal rain due to Cyclone Maha, leading to crop damage. In the wake of the damage, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani promised compensation to affected farmers.
