Cyclone Kyarr Update: Super Cyclonic Storm Likely to Weaken From Tuesday Morning, Says IMD
India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday said that the intensity of the cyclone Kyarr, which is a super cyclonic storm, is expected to weaken in steps, as it moves towards west-central of Arabian Sea. The IMD further said that the cyclone will maintain its intensity of a "super cyclonic storm" and will start weakening from morning hours of Tuesday.
Mumbai, October 29: India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday said that the intensity of the cyclone Kyarr, which is a super cyclonic storm, is expected to weaken in steps, as it moves towards west-central of Arabian Sea. The IMD further said that the cyclone will maintain its intensity of a "super cyclonic storm" and will start weakening from morning hours of Tuesday, October 29. "Kyarr will maintain the intensity of a super cyclonic storm till the morning hour of 29th October and weaken gradually thereafter. Super cyclonic storm Kyarr over the east-central Arabian Sea will move west-northwest till 30th October, re-curve west southwest thereafter and move towards the Gulf of Aden off south Oman-Yemen coasts during 3 days," IMD said. The fisherfolks have been advised to avoid venturing into the west-central Arabian Sea till November 2 and into the east-central till October 29. The fishermen of Maharashtra, Goa, and Karnataka have been warned to not venture into the sea.
Kyarr had developed into a cyclone on Friday and on Sunday it intensified into a super cyclonic storm. Notably, this is the second cyclonic storm ever to develop in the Arabian Sea since the super cyclone category was introduced in 1998. The first cyclone was recorded in Odisha in 1999 and originated in the Bay of Bengal. Another super cyclone Gonu originated in the Arabian Sea in 2007.
