Cyclone Kyarr: Tropical Cyclonic Storm Intensifies Into 'Severe Cyclone’, Heavy Rainfall Likely in Karnataka, Goa And Maharashtra

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday said that cyclone Kyaar has intensified into " severe cyclone". According to the IMD, the tropical cyclonic storm lay centred at 190 km to the west of Maharashtra's Ratnagiri and 330 km south-southwest of Mumbai, Maharashtra.

New Delhi, October 25: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday said that cyclone Kyaar has intensified into "severe cyclone". According to the IMD, the tropical cyclonic storm lay centred at 190 km to the west of Maharashtra's Ratnagiri and 330 km south-southwest of Mumbai, Maharashtra. As per IMD's bulletin, "The cyclonic storm ‘Kyarr’ has intensified into a severe cyclonic storm over the east-central Arabian Sea. It lay centered at 5:30 pm, today, about 190 km to the west of Ratnagiri & 330 km south-southwest of Mumbai." A red alert, indicating extremely heavy showers, has been for issued for Sindhudurg district which means precipitation of 204.5 mm rainfall in 24 hours. Cyclone Kyaar would result into gale winds, reaching the speed to 85 kmph and by Saturday it would become 110 kmph, the IMD official said.

Squally wind speed reaching 55-65 kmph gusting to 75 kmph is likely to prevail along and off Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Raigad districts of Maharashtra as well as Goa. Wind speed of around 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is likely to prevail along with the remaining coastal districts of Maharashtra, north Karnataka coast as well as in the Arabian sea off the Gujarat coast during the next 24 hours," he said.
