Cyclone Kyarr Deepens Over Southern Coast of India, IMD Issues Orange Alert for Several Districts of Kerala
With Cyclone Kyarr deepening over the southern part of India, IMD had issued an orange alert for the state of Kerala on Wednesday and Thursday. It has predicted heavy rainfall on both the days in al, those districts and appealed to fishers not to venture in the sea.
Thiruvananthapuram, October 30: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert for the state of Kerala on Wednesday and Thursday. The Met department has predicted that isolated places over Lakshadweep, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are likely to receive heavy rainfall on both the days. The orange alert has been issued for adjoining Lakshadweep-Maldives areas and along and off Kerala and south Karnataka coasts.
According to the All India Weather Warning Bulletin of IMD, Orange alert has been issued for Trivandrum, Kollam, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Idukki and Malappuram districts of Kerala for today. While Yellow alert has been issued in Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Kozhikode and Wayanad districts. Apart from this, IMD had also issued Orange alert in Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram and Kozhikode districts for Thursday. While Yellow alert was issued in Trivandrum, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Palakkad, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasargod districts for tomorrow. With the Gale winds, speed reaching 140-150 kmph gusting to 170 kmph, the sea condition is very likely to phenomenal over west-central and adjoining east-central and the north Arabian Sea and rough to very rough over the southeast Arabian Sea due to the Cyclone KYARR. It stated that the extremely severe cyclonic storm is very likely to move west-northwestwards till today, re-curve west-southwestwards thereafter and move towards the Gulf of Aden off south Oman-Yemen coasts during subsequent three days.
Kyarr is very likely to weaken into a severe cyclonic storm by early hours of October 31 and into a cyclonic storm by the evening of October 31, the IMD said. The weather forecast agency further predicted that heavy falls are also likely over Karaikal, Kerala and Mahe.
