Cyclone Fani Update: Indian Navy Deploys INS Ranvijay to Affected Areas, Naval Aircraft Dornier Carries Aerial Survey

In the wake of heavy rains in the eastern coastal area of the country due to Cyclone Fani, the Indian Navy today sent destroyer INS Ranvijay with rescue and relief materials to the affected areas. It is the 4th capital warship being put out to sea in the wake of Cyclone Fani.

Vishakhapatnam, May 3: In the wake of heavy rains in the eastern coastal area of the country due to Cyclone Fani, the Indian Navy today sent destroyer INS Ranvijay with rescue and relief materials to the affected areas. It is the 4th capital warship being put out to sea in the wake of Cyclone Fani. On Friday, Indian Navy’s Dornier aircraft undertook an aerial survey to assess the impact & extent of devastation caused in the aftermath of the storm. Meanwhile, the Indian Army has also kept three columns on standby at Gopalpur, two columns and two Engineering Task Force (ETFs) are standby at Ranchi, and four columns and four ETFs are standby at Panagarh for Odisha, reported The Indian Express. Similarly, The Indian Air Force (IAF) 2 C-17, 2 C-130, 4 AN-32 aircraft for relief carrying out relief operations. The Coast Guard has also kept its six ships on standby. On Friday, as the storm shifted its direction towards West Bengal and North East, heavy to very heavy rainfall has been predicted by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Director General of PIB informed that after the damage at Bhubaneswar airport, restoration work is underway. He also informed that teams from the Airport Authority of India are working and aircraft movements expected by 1 PM tomorrow. Meanwhile, six people have reportedly died in the cyclone in Odisha, while the government officials are yet to confirm the report.
