Bhubaneswar, May 3: With the powerful eye of the 'Cyclone Fani' hitting the coastal areas of Odisha in the afternoon, allegedly killing at least six people and eradicating what all coming in between its way, the roof of a building at AIIMS Bhubaneswar is ripped off too. While the wind is still blowing at a speed of more than 100 kmph but in Odisha, it is expected now that it would move towards that North Eastern region like West Bengal and states like Manipur, Mizoram and Nagaland later in the day.
As per the information, there has been extensive damage to the structure of AIIMS Bhubaneswar, while al, the patients, staff and students are safe, said Union Health Secretary Preeti Sudan. Meanwhile, AIIMS PG exam scheduled on May 5, has been cancelled. Another exam will be conducted for students affected by this cancellation as soon as normalcy returns, adds Sudan. A video has been posted by the Director General of the Press Information Bureau stating that the roof at the undergraduate hostel in the AIIMS in Bhubaneshwar was seen being blown off.
Briefing more, DG of PIB Sitangshu Kar posted a video of effects of Cyclone Fani on Twitter and wrote, "Extensive damage to the structure of AIIMS Bhubaneswar, all patients, staff and students safe. In the meantime, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced a Rs 1000 crore relief package for Cyclone Fani in different states. The decision was made after the emergency meeting with the health secretaries, Union ministers, weather department officials and rescue department officials.

The Kolkata airport will be closed tonight at around 9:30 pm, whereas, flight operations at Bhubaneswar were clamped down last midnight. Indian Navy's P-8I and Dornier are being scheduled to be launched in the afternoon for undertaking an aerial survey to assess the extent of impact and devastation post-FANI crossing the coast.
