Cyclone Fani: Spike in Fish Prices in West Bengal As Andhra Pradesh, Odisha Supply Dips
Cyclone Fani has left a major impact on the Bengali cuisine as the prices of sea delights, especially fishes have skyrocketed in the markets. According to reports, daily, 50 trucks of fish come from Andhra Pradesh to the Howrah fish market and 40 trucks from Odisha which were reduced due to the landfall of the cyclonic storm.

This comes after the fishermen were warned and restricted from venturing into the sea. The number of local retailers who sell fishes has also been decreased. According to reports, Pabha fish which was earlier sold at Rs 400/kg is now costing around Rs 700, Pomfret which used to sell at Rs 350 is now costing Rs 450, Rohu at Rs 270 from Rs 180, Katla fish from Rs 350 to Rs 550, similarly Tiger Prawns are priced at Rs 500 which was earlier sold for Rs 350 per kilo.
Cyclone Fani, pronounced as Foni, triggered rains, damaged huts and affected the normal lives of people as it entered West Bengal post-midnight on Saturday, hours after making landfall and causing plunder in Odisha on Friday. Citing the 'severe cyclonic storm', the flight operations and train services were affected in both the states.
