Cyclone Fani Rescue: Air India Announces Additional Flight on Delhi-Bhubaneswar Route to Help Stranded Passengers

Air India said it will operate an additional Delhi-Bhubaneswar at 1500 hrs and Bhubaneswar-Delhi at 1745 hrs for passengers who were stuck due to the severe cyclonic storm that made a landfall in Odisha on Friday morning.

New Delhi, May 4: National carrier Air India announced additional flight on the Delhi-Bhubaneswar route on Saturday to help passengers stranded due to Cyclone Fani. According to a tweet by ANI, the airline will operate an additional Delhi-Bhubaneswar flight at 1500 hrs (3 PM) and a Bhubaneswar-Delhi flight at 1745 hrs (5:45 PM) on May 4 for passengers who have been stuck due to the severe cyclonic storm that made a landfall in Odisha on May 3. Cyclone Fani Update: Air India Offers to Carry Relief Materials to Affected Areas of Odisha Free of Cost. 

On Saturday, the cyclonic storm weakened into a "cyclonic storm leaving no more major threat" for West Bengal. On Saturday morning, Fani was located at Shantipur in Nadia district about 60 km north of Kolkata, and is likely to enter Bangaldesh around Saturday noon. Cyclone Fani Enters West Bengal Through Odisha’s Balasore.

On Saturday, operations at Kolkata airport resumed after hours of closure due to severe cyclonic storm Fani. "Air India AI 743 to Agartala is the first departure from Kolkata at 0957 hours while GoAir's G8 101 DEL CCU is the first flight to land into Kolkata at around 1010 hours," Kolkata Airport spokesperson said.

In the wake of Cyclone Fani, all flights to and from Bhubaneswar were cancelled for 24 hours starting midnight of May 3. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said on Thursday had issued an advance order to cancel all flights to and from Kolkata between 9.30 PM on May 3 and 6 PM on May 4 to ensure safety of operations during the cyclone.
