Kolkata, May 3: Flight operations from Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata will be further suspended from 3 PM on Friday to to 8 AM on Saturday. The closure timing revised from earlier announced 9.30 PM on Friday  to 6 PM on Saturday. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) informed that flight operations to and from Kolkata Airport will be shut in the wake of the extremely severe storm- Cyclone Fani.  

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Thursday issued an advance order to cancel all flights to and from Kolkata between 9.30 PM on May 3 and 6 PM on May 4 to ensure safety of operations during the cyclone. Catch Cyclone Fani Live News Updates.

On May 2, all flights to and from Bhubaneswar were cancelled for 24 hours starting midnight of May 3 in view of the severe cyclonic storm 'Fani' threat over the Bay of Bengal. Cyclone Fani made a landfall on the Odisha coast near Puri on Friday morning.The weather conditions triggered heavy rains in parts of north coastal Andhra Pradesh, while gusty winds uprooted trees and electricity poles.

The cyclone moved close to north coastal Andhra before it made landfall in neighbouring Odisha. Reports inform that nearly a million people have been evacuated to safer places as the country’s worst cyclone in more than five years made a landfall in Odisha on Friday morning.

Odisha along with West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh joined hands with the central government to prepare rescue and relief steps ahead of Cyclone Fani’s expected landfall in Puri district. According to reports, despite extensive damage caused by near 200 kmph winds and heavy rainfall, no loss of life has been reported so far. In the wake of the severe storm, about a million people were evacuated to safer places in Odisha due to the cyclonic storm.
