Cyclone Bulbul Update: Death Toll Rises to 10 in West Bengal, 2.73 Lakh Families Affected; Mamata Banerjee to Conduct Aerial Survey Tomorrow
The death toll due to cyclone Bulbul has risen to 10 on Sunday in the coast Indian coastal state of West Bengal. At least 2.73 lakh families were also affected by the cyclonic storm Bulbul in different parts of the state. Two people also lost their lives in Odisha.
Kolkata, November 10: The death toll due to cyclone Bulbul has risen to 10 on Sunday in the coast Indian coastal state of West Bengal. At least 2.73 lakh families were also affected by the cyclonic storm Bulbul in different parts of the state. Two people also lost their lives in Odisha. The cyclonic storm which weakened from “very severe” to “severe” category on Saturday evening wreaked havoc in West Bengal and the neighbouring state of Odisha. Union Ministry of Home Affairs on Sunday said that the storm has caused damage to thousands of houses, uprooting trees and affecting hundreds of phone towers. The Centre of the storm has now moved to Bangladesh. However, high winds with speed up to 80 kms in West Bengal's South 24 Parganas continue to rage. According to reports, eight people were also killed in Bangladesh due to the cyclonic storm.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will make an aerial survey of the severe cyclone Bulbul hit areas around Namkhana and Bakkhali in South 24 Parganas district on Monday. Banerjee tweeted, “Due to the severe cyclonic storm Bulbul, I have decided to postpone my North Bengal visit in the coming week. Later, she will hold a meeting at Kakdwip with the administration to review the relief and rehabilitation measures of the cyclone-affected people. The West Bengal CM will also visit the cyclone-affected areas of Basirhat of North 24-Parganas on November 13. Prime Minister Narendra Modi reviewed the situation after Cyclone Bulbul brought heavy rains in parts of Odisha and West Bengal.

Bulbul crossed the Bengal coast close to Sundarban Dhanchi forest between 8.30 p.m. and 11.30 p.m. on Saturday leaving behind a trail of destruction in North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas and East Midnapore districts. Disaster Management Minister Javed Khan said that 1.78 lakh persons were sheltered in 471 relief camps. According to state Food and Supplies Minister Jyotipriyo Mullick, as many as 3,100 houses collapsed in the worst-hit Basirhat sub-division alone.
