Cyclone Alert Issued for Andhra Pradesh, Heavy Rainfall to Lash Tamil Nadu, Puducherry in the Next 24 Hours

According to an official release by IMD, the coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh will witness heavy rainfall at most places on 16th and 17th December.

Hyderabad, December 15: The southern states of India including Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry will witness heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds in the next 24 hours. The weather conditions is likely to trigger a cyclone warning in the south coastal region of Andhra Pradesh in the next 48 hours, reports informed. According to an official release by IMD, the coastal areas of  Andhra Pradesh will witness heavy rainfall at most places on December 16 and 17. The weather conditions will bring heavy rainfall at many places over adjoining districts of north Tamil Nadu on December 16. Cyclone Gaja Hits Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh on November 14.

The change in weather condition is after a deep depression over southeast Bay of Bengal (BoB) on Friday moved west-northwestwards and lay centred near the southern states. The IMD said it is very likely to intensify further into a Cyclonic Storm during next 24 hours and into a Severe Cyclonic Storm in subsequent 24 hours. "It is very likely to move north-northwestwards and cross Andhra Pradesh coast between Ongole and Kakinada during 17th December afternoon", the IMD said in its release. Cyclone Gaja Intensifies, Red Alert Issued in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, Tourist Movement Restricted in Several Areas. 

Along with Andhra Pradesh, rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy falls at isolated places is expected to lash Odisha. The southern region of Chhattisgarh will also witness heavy rainfall at isolated places on December 16 and 17. The IMD release informed that rainfall at most places with heavy falls at isolated places also likely over adjoining districts of Jharkhand on December 17. Meanwhile, the Gangetic West Bengal is expected to receive rainfall at most places on December 17 and 18.

The IMD in its notification informed that squally wind speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph is likely to commence along & off Andhra Pradesh, north Tamil Nadu & Puducherry coasts from December 15. It is very likely to increase gradually becoming gale wind speed of 80-90 kmph gusting to 100 kmph along & off Andhra Pradesh coast from December 17.

The sea condition are believed to be very rough over southwest & adjoining the southeast Bay of Bengal. It is likely to become high December 15. The fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea while those, who are out in deep sea areas are advised to return to the coast.
