Mumbai, May 22: A few days ago, a cyclone warning alert was issued, stating that an intense cyclone would likely occur in the Bay of Bengal this month. The cyclone developing in the Bay of Bengal is expected to impact Odisha, Gujarat, and Maharashtra coastal states between May 23 and May 26. And now the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has confirmed the same.

In its daily weather forecast, the IMD said that a low-pressure area has been formed over the Southwest and adjoining Westcentral Bay of Bengal under the influence of the cyclonic circulation over the Southwest Bay of Bengal. The IMD also said the cyclonic storm will likely move northeastward, intensify further, and reach the northeast and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal by Saturday evening, May 25. In view of the low-pressure area over the Southwest and adjoining Westcentral Bay of Bengal, the IMD has also issued a rainfall warning.

According to the weather report, light to moderate rainfall is expected in several places on May 25 and 26, and heavy rainfall is likely in isolated places over North and South 24 Parganas, East Medinipur districts of West Bengal, and Balasore district of Odisha. Warning for Fishermen

The India Meteorological Department has also issued a warning for fishermen and has advised them against venturing into the central and adjoining south Bay of Bengal from May 23 and into the North Bay of Bengal from May 24 onwards till May 26. The weather agency has also advised fishermen out in the sea to return to the coast before May 23.
