Cyberbullying in UP: Minor Girl Attempts Suicide After Class 11 Student Allegedly Posts Her Edited Objectionable Video on Social Media, Case Registered
According to a report, the perpetrator had uploaded an edited and objectionable video of the girl, a class 10 student, on social media, igniting a wave of humiliation and distress for the victim and her family.
Sitapur, May 24: A distressing incident unfolded in Sitapur as a minor girl attempted suicide following alleged cyberbullying by a class 11 student. According to a report, the perpetrator had uploaded an edited and objectionable video of the girl, a class 10 student, on social media, igniting a wave of humiliation and distress for the victim and her family. Following the girl's suicide attempt, the Sitapur police registered a case against the minor accused.
According to the Times of India report, in a series of events, the accused, a Class 11 student, shared a manipulated photo of the girl on social media, which went viral. Upon learning about the viral image, the victim's neighbours informed her parents about the image. Subsequently, the image led to derogatory comments from acquaintances, adding to the family's distress. Under societal pressure, the victim's parents reached the accused's residence in an attempt to talk to his parents. As per the report, the situation further deteriorated when the girl's parents confronted the accused student's parents about the matter, only to be met with hostility and assault. Upon learning of the humiliation her parents went through, the girl consumed a poisonous substance and was rushed to the district hospital early on Thursday, May 23. Taking cognizance of the incident, Sitapur police have registered an FIR against the accused, who is a minor, under the Juvenile Act. "We are actively pursuing the case and ensuring that justice is served," stated Niraj Singh, SHO Khairabad. He further added that arrangements have been made for a woman police officer to take the girl's statement, ensuring sensitivity in handling the case.
