CRPF Deputy Inspector General (Intelligence) Moses Dhinakaran told PTI, “While the weight and components of the new body gear are similar to the old one, it has a better ergonomical design that would help women personnel better manouvere and be comfortable while on duty.” The protective gear weighs 6 kg. It has a different design and layout from the regular fibre-made black coloured body protector. The new suit not only protects against blunt impact, but will prevent the security personnel from acid attack and fire. CRPF's Tweet:
Currently, the regular protective gear is worn by both men and women police and paramilitary personnel during riot-control duties and regulation of public protests. The estimated cost of the female body protector is Rs 9,000. It will protect an individual from the neck to the toe with chest, hand, legs, shin and thigh guards. It took two years to design the gear. Several tests were conducted in these two years keeping in mind the requirement of force during anti-riot operations.
