Kolkata, July 31: In a heart-wrenching incident, a 12-year-old boy's courageous attempt to save his father from a crocodile attack ended in tragedy near the banks of the Jagaddal river in Satyadaspur village, Patharpratima, South 24-Parganas in West Bengal. The victim's body was recovered on Monday morning.

According to a report published Telegraph, Rabiul Sheikh, a Class VI student, valiantly tried to pry open the jaws of a 10-foot saltwater crocodile that had latched onto his father, Asmauddin Sheikh, 45, while they were fishing on Sunday afternoon. Despite Rabiul's desperate efforts, the crocodile dragged Asmauddin into the river. His body was discovered the following morning. The incident unfolded as Asmauddin stood in knee-deep water, preparing to retrieve a fishing net. Rabiul, initially shocked, quickly sprang into action. "I jumped over the animal and tried to open its mouth, but it was too strong for me. I felt helpless and started crying. My father then advised me to call villagers to rescue him. Locals immediately contacted the Gobardhanpur coastal police. Officer-in-charge Chandan Pandit praised Rabiul's bravery, stating, "The boy showed exemplary bravery to save his father. We rushed to the spot and began the rescue operation. Unfortunately, we found the man's body on Monday morning. An autopsy will be conducted on Tuesday."
