Varanasi, July 8: In a harrowing incident, a 60-year-old man was bitten on private parts by a crocodile while defecating on the bank of a canal adjacent to the Budhwa forest in the Nichlaul forest range under the Sohagibarwa Wildlife Division in Uttar Pradesh's Kushinagar. The victim was rushed to a hospital, where he is undergoing treatment. His condition is said to be stable.

According to an Amar Ujala report, the victim, Kanhaiya Gond, a resident of Madanpur Bhediyari in the Khadda police station area, was attacked by the crocodile on Friday, July 5. The incident occurred when the man was defecating near the canal. The reptile emerged suddenly from the canal and mutilated Gond’s limbs and private parts as he attempted to escape. His screams alerted nearby villagers, who found him lying in a pool of blood. Gond was initially admitted to a private hospital in Nichlaul. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was referred to the district hospital and subsequently to the Medical College in Gorakhpur. Ranger Sunil Rao of Nichlaul said that a crocodile had been rescued from the same area and released into a pond a few days prior. He warned that due to recent rains, wildlife has dispersed, and there is an increased need for caution near water bodies. Khadda Ranger Shri Prakash Pandey urged residents to remain vigilant and report any sightings of crocodiles or other dangerous animals to the forest range office.
