Bengaluru, May 13: In a tragic incident, a 72-year-old farmer died after he was fatally attacked by a crocodile on the banks of the Doodhganga River near Dattawad-Sadalga, Chikkodi taluk in Karnataka's Belagavi. The victim, Mahadev Punnappa Khure of Sadalga village, was engaged in agricultural activities on his land adjacent to the river on Friday, May 10.

According to The New Indian Express, Khure entered the river for a bath following a day's labour. Tragically, while returning to shore, a crocodile caught him, dragging him underwater, as reported by local residents. Crocodile Attack in Karnataka

The community, led by social worker Sukumar Ugare, retrieved the body. Khure leaves behind a wife and two sons. The incident has been officially recorded at the Sadalga police station, and the body was released to the family post-autopsy.

This incident has heightened concerns among the local farming community, as the Doodhganga River has witnessed a significant increase in the crocodile population. A 22-year-old man was injured after he was attacked allegedly by a tiger at a village in Chamarajanagara district. Mannu suffered injuries on his neck and hands. He is in a stable condition and is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in Mysuru. According to forest department officials, the incident occurred on Friday at around 6.30 pm in Honakanahalli village. The tiger, about two years old, pounced and attacked Mannu when a group of people approached the animal, which had taken refuge on a farm.
