New Delhi, November 2: In line with the Supreme Court directive, the Tamil Nadu government fixed time slot for bursting of crackers during Diwali. The state government on Friday said people would be allowed to burst firecrackers between 6 am and 7 am and 7 pm and 8 pm on Diwali. The State Pollution Control Board will monitor air quality seven days before and after the festival in all corporations. Sale of Safe and Green Firecrackers Allowed, No Complete Ban Across India, Rules Supreme Court Ahead of Diwali 2018.

A government release also urged people of the state to burst crackers with low decibel and pollution levels. The state government also asked the people to avoid bursting firecrackers near hospitals and places of worship.

"Based on the Supreme Court verdict, the Tamil Nadu government permits bursting of crackers between 6 am and 7 am and 7 pm and 8 pm," the release said. Diwali 2018: Only Green Firecrackers to Be Sold in Delhi-NCR, Other States Can Allow Sale of Existing Stock, Rules Supreme Court.

In October, the state government had said it would consult stakeholders regarding the Supreme Court's decision of allowing the state to pick a two-hour slot for bursting firecrackers on Diwali and will decide the time slots. The two slots for bursting crackers, comes after the top court refused to extend the two-hour limit imposed on the bursting of firecrackers during Diwali 2018.

While hearing the plea filed by the Tamil Nadu government, the Court said the state government can decide the time slot but duration cannot exceed the two hours limit. The Court's order comes a day after the Tamil Nadu urged the top Court to allow the 4.30 AM to 6.30 AM slot for the bursting of firecrackers.

Earlier in October, the Court had restricted the bursting of crackers across India to two hours for bursting crackers—from 8 PM to 10 PM on Diwali while 11.55 PM to 12.30 AM during Christmas and New Year’s Eve celebrations throughout the nation.
