Dehradun, Sep 21: The Uttarakhand Assembly has unanimously passed a resolution on Wednesday seeking the status of Rashtra Mata (mother of the nation) for cows. The resolution, which was presented by state Animal Husbandry Minister Rekha Arya, has been sent to the Centre. While moving the resolution, Arya also said that cow not only inhales oxygen but also exhales it.

Arya listed medicinal qualities of cow urine and said conferring the status of Rashtra Mata to cows will further strengthen cow-conservation efforts all over the country. "The cow is treated as an incarnation of motherhood. The cow's milk is scientifically considered the best for newborn after his mother's milk," she was quoted as saying. 'Lynching In Name Of Cows is Wrong', Says RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat At 'Bharat of Future'.

While the Opposition including Congress supported the resolution seeking the status of Rashtra Mata for cows, they also said more efforts were needed to conserve and protect the cow and its progeny. The leader of Opposition in the Assembly, Indira Hridayesh said the Congress has no problem with the cow being declared Rashtra Mata.

In response to the Opposition's charge, Arya said shelter houses were being built across the state for cows. “Our government has been working towards cow protection… we are constructing shelters across the state. Getting the status of Rashtra Mata for the cow is another step towards cow protection," the minister said, as reported by Indian Express.
