Mysuru, July 21: A cow accidentally ate explosive-laden fodder which was allegedly kept to kill wild pigs at a farm. In the process of chewing, the explosive burst and injured the cow. The domestic animal later succumbed to injuries. The incident took place at Bettadabeedu village in HD Kote in Karnataka's Mysuru district on Monday. The six-year-old cow belonged to Narasimhe Gowda, who had left it to graze. Pregnant Elephant, Killed After Consuming Firecracker-Stuffed Pineapple, Died Due to Drowning And Inhalation of Water Into Lungs, Reveals Post-Mortem Report.

"The damage caused was so extensive that the whole tongue along with the jaw were blown off into pieces along with that the whole of the larynx was also severely damaged," animal rights activist Bhagyalakshmi told a newspaper. The incident came to light when cowherd Narasimhe Gowda heard an explosion and saw his cow profusely bleeding. It is suspected that the explosive-laden fodder was kept as a bait to draw wild boars and kill them for meat.

"The cow went near the bush and bite the explosive. There was a blast and the mouth of the cow was shattered into pieces. My relative immediately informed me. I rushed to the spot and called the PFA activists who came and treated the cow for its injuries. But it did not survive," Gowda was quoted as saying. A team led by veterinarian Dr Amardeep Singh was sent by People For Animals (PFA) to assist the injured cow.

However, the injuries were severe and the domestic animal could not be saved. The owner said he would lodge a police complaint. It remains unclear who kept explosive-laden fodder. This reminds the tragic death of a pregnant elephant in Kerala after it ate a pineapple filled with firecrackers by miscreants. The pregnant elephant's death had triggered nationwide outrage.
