COVID-19 Cases Continue to Rise Rapidly in South India; Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka And Andhra Pradesh Report Highest Single-Day Spike

Coronavirus cases are rapidly increasing in the southern states of India, including, Tamul Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. On Wednesday, all these three states reported the highest single-day spikes in coronavirus cases.

Chennai, July 22: Coronavirus cases are rapidly increasing in the southern states of India, including Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. On Wednesday, all these four states reported the highest single-day spike in coronavirus cases. Tamil Nadu witnessed 5,849 new COVID-19 positive cases in the past 24 hours. Seventy-four people also lost their lives due to the deadly virus in the corresponding period.

According to the state health department, the number of coronavirus cases increased to 1,86,492 on Wednesday. Currently, there are 51,765 active cases in Tamil Nadu, while over 1.3 lakh people have recovered so far. The death toll in the state also mounted to 2,700. Chennai is the worst-hit city of the state.

Meanwhile, Kerala reported, 1,038 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday. Out of the new cases, 226 cases have been reported in Thiruvananthapuram. The number of COVID-19 cases in the state crossed 14,000-mark. There are currently, 8,818 active cases in this southern state of India. Till now, 44 people have succumbed to the virus. Curfew Imposed in Kerala's Aluva Municipal Corporation And Six Panchayats Amid Rising COVID-19 Cases.

In Karnataka, 4,764 COVID-19 cases were reported. The total number of positive cases in the state stands at 75,833. Out of the total cases reported on Wednesday, over 2,000 people in Bengaluru contracted the deadly virus. Till now, 36,993 people have been diagnosed with COVID-19 in the city. The coronavirus death toll in the state increased to 1,519 after 55 more patients succumbed to COVID-19 in the past 24 hours.

Andhra Pradesh also reported its biggest single-day spike of 6,045 COVID-19 cases on Wednesday. So far, 64,713 people have been infected with the virus. The COVID-19 death toll in the state increased to 823 after 65 more people succumbed to the disease in the past 24 hours.

India’s COVID-19 tally inched closer to 12 lakh-mark on Wednesday. The country on July 22 reported a spike of 37,724 cases and 648 deaths in the 24-hour time period. With the latest spike, the total coronavirus cases in the country is now at 11,92,915 while the death toll due to the pandemic has mounted to 28,732.
