Courier Boy Assaults Dadar Sisters When Asked to Speak in Marathi, Handed Over to Police
The younger sibling said that the man beat them after an argument broke out between them when he was asked to speak in Marathi instead of Hindi.
Mumbai, February 23: A 28-year-old courier boy allegedly beat up and abused a 50-year-old woman and her 48-year-old sister for being asked to speak in Marathi. The younger sibling said that the man beat them when he was asked to speak in Marathi instead of Hindi.
The incident took place in Shivaji Park area of Dadar. The courier boy has been identified as Ibrahim Shaikh, 28-year-old, who had gone to deliver a parcel on Friday afternoon.
When Shaikh ringed the bell, the younger sister who opened the door asked the delivery boy about the nature of the parcel and told him to reply in Marathi.
Ibrahim Shaikh then replied in Hindi saying that it was a book. The women in the house then told him to speak in Marathi instead of Hindi and that's when an argument broke out between them.
English daily Mumbai Mirror reported that Shaikh allegedly told the younger sister that, "I am an Indian and Maharashtra is in India."
On this, the sisters told her that he should know how to speak in Marathi since he is in Maharashtra. Hearing this, Shaikh got furious and abused the younger sister.
By this time, both the sisters had come out and the elder sister asked Shaikh why was he abusing and said that she would complain to the seniors of the parcel boy.
The parcel boy then hit the younger sister twice on head and poked a ball pen in the elder sister's cheeks, after which she started bleeding. The neighbours then caught Shaikh, who tried to run from the scene.
