Coronavirus Cases Jump to 9352 in India With Highest Single-Day Surge in Deaths, 51 COVID-19 Patients Die in Past 24 Hours

New Delhi, April 13: The number of coronavirus cases has jumped to 9352, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Monday evening. The death toll due to coronavirus (COVID-19) climbed to 324 with 51 fatalities in the past 24 hours. This is the biggest single-day surge in deaths so far. According to data, out of 9325 coronavirus cases, 8048 are still active. Maharashtra remained the worst-hit state with a total number of positive cases rising to 1985, followed by Delhi which reported 1154 cases, followed by Tamil Nadu which has reported 1075 cases. At least 812 people are affected in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh reported 604 cases, Gujarat reported 539 cases, Telangana reported 562 cases, and Andhra Pradesh reported 432 cases as per data from the Health Ministry. Supreme Court Says 'Can't Gag The Press' on Plea Against Alleged Communal Reportage of COVID-19 in India.

Jammu and Kashmir has reported 245, Punjab has 167 cases, West Bengal has 152, Haryana has 185 cases, Bihar 64, Chandigarh has 21, Assam 31, Ladakh has 15 coronavirus cases. In Andaman and Nicobar Island, there are at least 11 cases, Uttarakhand has also reported 35 cases, Arunachal Pradesh has 1, Goa has 7 cases, Chhattisgarh has 31, Himachal Pradesh 32, Jharkhand 19 and Manipur have 2 cases.

Odisha has recorded 54 cases and Puducherry 7. Most number of casualties have been reported from Maharashtra, 149 deaths. Other states and UTs that have reported casualties are Andhra Pradesh (7), Bihar (1), Assam (1), Delhi (24), Gujarat (26), Haryana (3), Himachal Pradesh (1), J&K (4), Karnataka (6), Kerala (3), Madhya Pradesh (43), Punjab (11), Tamil Nadu (11), Telangana (16), Uttar Pradesh (5) and West Bengal (7).

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation on Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. He is likely to announce the extension of the ongoing nationwide lockdown and exemptions, if any, during the address. The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) took to Twitter to announce, "Prime Minister @narendramodi will address the nation at 10 a.m. on 14th April 2020."
