Congress President Rahul Gandhi to Visit UAE in January: Reports
The visit, timed a couple of months before the general elections in India, is aimed at boosting the Congress' perception among the Indian diaspora in the Emirates.
New Delhi, December 24: Congress president Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to visit the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in January, as per reports. The tour will be two-day long, said Congress functionaries apprised with the matter, claiming that the Gandhi scion will be visiting Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah between January 11-12.
The visit, timed a couple of months before the general elections in India, is aimed at boosting the Congress' perception among the Indian diaspora in the Emirates. A wave in favour of the party among the NRI community will drive up overseas donations in run-up to the Lok Sabha polls. MK Stalin Says State Leaders Planning to Take Call on Rahul Gandhi as PM Candidate.
Himanshu Vyas, secretary of the All India Congress Committee (AICC), is currently in the UAE to finalise the schedule of programmes which Rahul Gandhi would be attending.
While speaking to the Khaleej Times, Vyas had said that he would be arriving in UAE on December 21 and leaving on December 26 -- after finalising the details of their outreach programme among the Indian diaspora.
Other Congress sources have claimed that Rahul Gandhi would be addressing students of the University of Sharjah, along with holding meetings with Indian professionals, entrepreneurs and industrialists settled in the UAE. The events will be supported by the Overseas Indian Cultural Society, also known as INCAS -- a 48-year-old NRI-body which has politically leaned towards the Congress.
