Congress List of Candidates For Chattisgarh Assembly Elections 2018: Second List With Names of 6 Candidates Released

As per the Congress's second candidates list, former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's niece Karuna Shukla will contest against Chief Minister Raman Singh from Rajnandangaon.

Raipur, October 22: The Congress on Monday released its second list of candidates for the Chattisgarh Assembly elections 2018. In the second list, the Congress declared six candidates for the first phase of the Chattisgarh Assembly polls. As per the Congress's second candidates list, former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's niece Karuna Shukla will contest against Chief Minister Raman Singh from Rajnandangaon.

The Congress last week released its first list of 12 candidates for the first phase of assembly elections in Chhattisgarh on November 12. Seven sitting MLAs figure in the party's list for these 12 seats which lie in the Naxal-affected Bastar region. The party's candidates for 72 seats in the second phase will be announced later. Elections to the 90-member Assembly will be held in two phases: November 12 and November 20.

The first phase of polling covers 18 seats spread across eight Naxal-affected districts -- Bastar, Bijapur, Dantewada, Sukma, Kondagaon, Kanker, Narayanpur and Rajnandgaon. The Congress is out of power in the state for 15 years. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party is yet to come out with the list of its candidates. Party sources said it is expected to be released on October 20.
