Kapil Sibal while criticising PM Modi, referred to some best-known newspapers including New York Times, Washinton Post, The Guardian and Reuters. He asked if these publications are "Pro-Pakistan" for not reporting militants losses in Balakot Strike. Sibal, speaking to ANI said, "PM must speak on reports by international media that say hardly anyone died there (in the airstrike in Balakot). I want to ask PM, ‘Is international media in support of Pak?’ When int'l media speaks against Pak, you feel elated. When they ask questions, it's asking because it supports Pak?"

The Pre-emptive air strikes in Balakot has become a topic of political debate in India- West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, last week, asked for details citing media reports that said there were no deaths. Former Finance minister P Chidambaram, when asked about Mamata's remark, said he was prepared to believe the government, but "the world cannot be asked to suspend disbelief".
On February 26, India sent fighter jets into Pakistan's territory to strike down Jaish terror camp. In a press conference, the Air Force said that it was 21-minutes-long operation but it is premature to assess casualties. On Sunday, BJP President Amit Shah said that the number of terrorists killed in strikes are more than 250.
