New Delhi, June 29:  A criminal complaint has been filed against Congress senior leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad and Saifuddin Soz for making 'seditious statements against the Indian Army. According to a tweet by ANI, the complaint has been filed in Delhi's Patiala House Court.

Earlier this week, Ghulam Nabi Azad, the Congress leader and former J&K chief minister sparked a row after he said Army operations in Jammu and Kashmir killed more civilians than terrorists. Following his statement, the BJP took a jibe at the Congress and accused the party of trying to demoralise the armed forces.

According to a report by TOI, Azad was quoted in a TV interview saying BJP's language of "all-out operations" in J&K indicated that a "massacre" was being planned. In his statement, Azad claimed that forces take action against four terrorists and kill 20 civilians. Citing an example, Azad said security forces killed 13 civilians in Pulwama and just one terrorist.

Backing Azad, Former Union minister and veteran Congress leader in Jammu and Kashmir, Saifuddin Soz sparked a similar controversy saying Armed Forces Special Powers Acts (AFSPA) is misused by the Indian Army. "Laws like the AFSPA and Disturbed Areas Act were responsible for civilian killings by the armed forces", Soz had said earlier this week.
