New Delhi, June 23: A total of 11 condom manufacturing companies may face a heavy penalty for duping government from 2010 to 2014. The entire scam dated back to 2010, when health ministry invited price quoting from different condom companies to supply condoms at subsidised rates. In the probe conducted by the Competition Commission of India (CCI), the scam of the condom companies surfaced, reported News18 HindiIncreased Condom Sales and Abortions During Navratri and Dandiya Nights, An Urban Legend Or Truth?

One of the officials of the CCI said that these companies intentionally quoted higher prices for the contract. The difference between the highest and the lowest bidding was just 50 paise. As per rules, the government always gives a contract to the lowest bidder. In this case, the government faced a loss as there was hardly any difference between the highest and the lowest bid.

Two government companies were also named in the scam. Now, these companies may have to pay three times their annual profit or 10 percent of their annual turnover.
