New Delhi, December 21: Parts of north India continued to reel under severe cold wave conditions on Saturday due to fresh snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Flight operations and train services have been hit due to dense fog and low visibility in the national capital and its surrounding areas. According to a tweet by ANI, as many as 17 trains to north India including Punjab, Rajasthan, Delhi among others are running late due to operational reasons. Meanwhile, officials of the Delhi Airport were quoted by ANI saying that 46 flights were diverted till Friday midnight due to dense fog conditions.

According to weather predictions by India Meteorological Department (IMD), cold wave conditions are likely to prevail in most parts of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi over the weekend. The weather agency said that very dense fog has been observed at isolated pockets over north Rajasthan, Punjab and Chandigarh. The weather agency said that dense fog observed at isolated pockets over Haryana and Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Punjab, Bihar, Assam & Meghalaya at 5.30 am on Saturday. As winter sets in, a decrease in minimum temperature is predicted majorly in North India with conditions favourable for fog formation.

On Friday, the foggy weather delayed 760 flights and led to cancellation of 19. Meanwhile, over 100 trains remained up to two hours behind schedule. The minimum temperature settled at 6.4 degrees Celsius on Friday while visibility reducing to zero at some places. The Indian Railways said that  officials said over 100 trains were delayed by up to two hours. The maximum temperature on Friday was recorded at 17.5 degrees Celsius, five notches below the season's average.
