New Delhi, December 18: A day after violence broke out in Seelampur and Jafrabad during protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act, police imposed Section 144 of CrPC (Code of Criminal Procedure) in North East Delhi district on Wednesday. Section 144 prohibits the assembly of five or more people, holding meetings or carrying weapons. Restrictions have been imposed in view of the violence in north east Delhi. Petitions Against Citizenship Amendment Act To Be Heard By Supreme Court Today.

Tension over the Citizenship Amendment Act spilled over to Seelampur, Jafrabad and Brijpuri areas on Tuesday. As many as 21 people including 12 police personnel and three from the Rapid Action Force (RAF) were injured in the violence which broke out after some miscreants attacked a school bus, pelted stones and targeted the passers-by in Seelampur, said Joint Commissioner of Police Alok Kumar.

Three First Information Reports (FIR) were registered in connection with the violence in Delhi's north east district. "We have registered three cases of arson and violence. The first case was filed for Seelampur violence, second for Jafrabad and third for Brijpuri," Joint Commissioner of Police Alok Kumar told news agency IANS. On Sunday, another protest turned violent during a demonstration against the amended Citizenship Act, injuring several students from Jamia Millia Islamia University. Police arrested 10 persons in connection with the violence that led to action by police personnel inside the varsity campus. None of them were students. Cops resorted to lathi charge and fired tear gas to disperse violent mob.
