Citizenship Amendment Act: Nadwa College to Remain Shut Till January 5 Amid Anti-CAA Protests at Varsities

Lucknow, December 16: The Nadwa college in Lucknow will remain shut till January 5, 2020 in the wake of the protests over the newly enacted Citizenship (Amendment) Act. Earlier in the day, violence had erupted at the Islamic seminary Darul Uloom Nadwatul Ulama on Monday. Scores of students came out in support of Delhi's Jamia Millia University and Uttar Pradesh's Aligarh Muslim University students.
The students of Nadwa college protested against the Delhi and Aligarh Police, who clashed with the students over the recently passed CAA. After the police closed the gates of the college from outside, students pelted stones at the policemen from inside. Several varsities including Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Aligarh, Jamia Milia Islamia, New Delhi and Nadwa college in Lucknow have witnessed widespread protests against the CAA, which was passed in the Rajya Sabha last week.

Lucknow SSP Kalanidhi Naithani said that about 150 students had come out to protest but went back to their classes. Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh DGP O.P. Singh appealed to the students to maintain peace and said the law and order situation would be strictly implemented on the campus. He added saying that those students who indulge in violence would be dealt with strictly. He appealed to the students to maintain peace.
In the wake of widespread protests in several universities in Uttar Pradesh, the Allahabad University (AU) on Monday postponed all semester examinations scheduled for the day. The varsity also suspended all classes announcing closure of the central varsity for one day on December 16.
