Churu, June 1: The summer heat-wave conditions gripped the entire nation on Saturday as the mercury crossed 50-degree mark in Rajasthan's Churu, recording the highest temperature in the country today. In Churu, the temperature was 50.8 degrees Celsius- nine degrees above normal reported PTI quoting the Meteorological Department in Jaipur. Temperature Nears 50-Degree Mark in Rajasthan’s Sri Ganganagar, Maharashtra's Chandrapur Sizzles at 44.8 Degrees.

The other cities in the desert state were not behind as Ganganagar, Bikaner, Jaisalmer and Kota recorded their maximums at 47.9, 47.2 and 46 degrees Celsius. Rajasthan's capital Jaipur, Jodhpur and Barmer also witnessed intense heat-wave as the temperature was recorded at 45.2, 45.6, and 44.5 degrees Celsius respectively. Delhi Heatwave: National Capital Reels Under Severe Heat.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that in the next three days the severe heat-waves will persist over Rajasthan and East Madhya Pradesh. Other places such as Punjab, Vidharba, Haryana, Chandigarh, parts of East Uttar Pradesh and New Delhi will also experience a heatwave. A heat-wave is usually declared when the maximum temperature is above 45 degrees Celsius for two following days. The Meteorological Department has issued a "red-coloured warning" to northwest central India. The MeT department has four colour-coded messages, namely green, yellow, amber and red. The Green donates the normal conditions while the red warns extreme weather situations.
