Ahmedabad, May 9: After ordering a paneer tikka sandwich from a restaurant via a meal delivery app on Friday, May 3, 2024, a woman residing in the Chamundanagar region of Ahmedabad district in Gujarat received a chicken tikka sandwich instead. The woman realised she had been handed a chicken sandwich after taking a few bites from it. She filed a complaint with the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation's health department on Saturday, demanding Rs 50 lakh in compensation. According to reports, Nirali Parmar, the complainant, placed an order for a paneer tikka sandwich to be delivered to her office from a restaurant named "Pick Up Meals By Yerra".
Parmar's complaint states that she was given a chicken sandwich and discovered that the texture of the food item was different from paneer after biting into it. She said that she is a vegetarian and that eating meat is forbidden by both her personal beliefs and her religion. She claimed to have been 'hurt' by this error of the eatery and sought Rs 50 lakh in compensation. Civic Body Initiates Action
Following the complaint, VRYLY Ventures Pvt Ltd, the restaurant's operator, received a notice from the local body's health department on Saturday along with a Rs 5,000 penalty, according to TOI. Additionally, the agency forewarned the business that if the same error was made again, its outlet will be sealed. Earlier, 760 eateries in the city were inspected between April 28 and May 4, and 270 of them received notices for having unsanitary premises or serving food that wasn't appropriate for eating, according to the health department. 928 kg of solid food products and 704 litres of liquid food items were deemed unsuitable for eating, according to the civic authority, and were destroyed. A total of Rs 1.44 lakh in penalties was collected.
