Raipur, September 1: Three jawans have been injured in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast in Sukma's Kerlapal area. Further details are awaited.  It is the second IED blast in a month. In similar blast on August 7, an officer of the Central Reserve Police Force's elite the Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) unit was injured. The incident took place near Timilguda village, around 500 km from Raipur.

The blast in August took place when a team of the CoBRA was out on an area domination operation. The CoBRa is a specialised unit of the CRPF, and it is proficient in guerrilla tactics and jungle warfare. Meanwhile, on August 6, 15 Naxals were gunned down in the district.  Two Naxals, including a woman who was injured by the gunbattle, were also arrested from the encounter site. A large number of weapons were also recovered from the Naxals.

In another attack in May, six security personnel were killed in an IED blast in Cholanar village of Dantewada district in Chhattisgarh on May 20. Three of the martyred jawans were from the Chhattisgarh Armed Force and two from the District Force. Chhattisgarh is among the several Indian states hit by Naxalite violence. Though counter-insurgency operations have forced the Naxals to retreat and the violence has fallen in the recent times but hit and run attacks are still being carried out by the insurgents killing hundreds of people, mostly security personnel.
