Janjgir-Champa, August 17: Amid growing outcry over the Kolkata rape-murder incident, a similarly horrifying case has emerged from Janjgir-Champa, Chhattisgarh. On August 16, police discovered the body of a 55-year-old woman who was allegedly raped and murdered, dumped in bushes about a kilometre from her home in the Akaltara police station area. The victim, who had been missing since August 15, was found half-naked, with pieces of wooden sticks brutally inserted in her private parts.

According to a report by Amar Ujala, a passerby discovered the half-naked body of the victim in the bushes near her home on Friday morning, August 16, and promptly alerted the police. The discovery shocked the community as the victim, known to be a liquor addict, had been missing since the night before, i.e., August 15. The body showed signs of extreme brutality, including wooden sticks inserted into her private parts, leading to suspicions of both rape and murder. Chhattisgarh Shocker: Boy Chases 15-Year-Old Girl, Brutally Beats Her to Death to Settle Score With Her Father as Onlookers Watch in Kabirdham; Arrested.

The Akaltara police station team, along with forensic experts, arrived at the scene to gather evidence and examine the body. They sent the body for autopsy to determine the exact cause of death and confirm the assault. Initial findings suggest a violent crime, with indications pointing towards rape and murder. In the course of the ongoing investigation, police have detained a young man who was reportedly seen with the victim shortly before she vanished. Chhattisgarh Shocker: Differently-Abled Man Arrested for Raping 10-Year-Old Girl Residing in His Neighbourhood.

Superintendent of Police Vivek Shukla has emphasised the need for a thorough investigation into the case, as the Free Press Journal reported. As the inquiry progresses, the police are focusing on gathering more evidence and questioning potential witnesses to unravel the full details of the crime. The post-mortem report will be crucial in confirming whether rape was indeed part of the assault.
