Raipur, June 30: While passing the baton of Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee (CPCC) to Kondagaon MLA Mohan Markam, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel had an emotional moment on Saturday, June 29. During his farewell speech to the Indian National Congress (INC) workers, Baghel's eyes welled up. A video of the episode is also going viral on the internet.

In the clip, grand old party workers can be heard chanting, "Long live Bhupesh Baghel, long live Congress party (Bhupesh Baghel zindabad, Congress party zindabad)." Mohan Markam Appointed New Chhattisgarh Congress Unit President by Rahul Gandhi.

"I was appointed to the post by Rahul Gandhiji after we lost the election in 2013. 2014 Lok Sabha elections were near. We were worried about the party's prospects in the state after the 2014 election. The fight we party leaders started after June 2014 continued till the time we came to power in Chhattisgarh," Baghel said.

Mohan Markham replaced Baghel as the head of Congress's Chhattisgarh unit on Saturday. This development comes after Congress's disastrous performance in 2019 Lok Sabha Election, after which Congress president Rahul Gandhi announced his decision to resign from the top post. In general elections, Congress won only two seats in Chhattisgarh, despite a landslide victory in assembly elections last year.
