Raipur, July 27: At least seven naxals were killed an encounter with the security forces in Chhattisgarh on Saturday. The exchange of fire was reported in Bastar district, which is one among the left-wing extremism (LWE) affected regions. The identity of the deceased insurgents was yet to be revealed.

The encounter broke out in Tiriya village of Bastar region, said P Sundar Raj, DIG, anti-naxal operations. "7 naxals killed in an encounter with District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Special Task Force in Tiriya, Bastar. 1 INSAS rifle, Four 303 rifles and other arms and ammunition recovered," he was reported as saying.

The encounter comes days after two naxals were gunned down in neighbouring Madhya Pradesh's Balaghat district. The encounter was carried out on July 10. The deceased were identified as identified as Mangesh and Bande of the CPI (Maoists) Tanda Dalam group.

Earlier, on July 9, a woman naxal was neutralised by the forces in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district. She was allegedly involved in several insurgent attacks over the last decade. An INSAS rifle looted by the Maoists in in an attack on CRPF in Tadmetla in 2010 was also recovered.
