Chennai, March 6: A week after falling off a two-wheeler driven by her son while trying to escape chasing stray dogs in Chromepet, a 55-year-old woman died of her injuries at a Chennai hospital on Wednesday. The victim has been identified as Thenmozhi, a resident of Radha Nagar. The woman was being treated at the hospital for head injuries. 

According to a report in TOI, the victim was working in a library and was on the two-wheeler with her son. While they were crossing the Gandhi Nagar area on the night of February 24, a group of stray dogs started chasing the bike. The Chromepet Traffic Investigation Wing registered a case on Wednesday (March 1) after her death. The police said they had registered a case of accident due to self-fall initially, and included the issue of stray dog in the report.

Social activist V Santhanam alleged that the number of stray dogs has increased manifold in two years. “There is no adequate infrastructure in the corporation to control the menace. There is only one dog-catching vehicle available for five zones and no manpower as well,” he said.
